Comments | The three tunes listed here circulate with the 7/11/70 second AUD master but do not seem to belong to the 11th. Easy Wind is probably from the 9th; it differs from the versions circulating for the other nights of the run. The intro prefixed proves it an opener. Workin' Man Blues, which precedes it on the circulating tape, may therefore also belong to the 9th, but could come from the 10th or 12th. FOTD could be either the 9th or the 10th. SET 1 is from an acoustic Dead set, SET 2 from the NRPS set, possibly the opener, and SET 3 the opener of the electric Dead set. David Ross recalls attending a show from this run, apparently the 9th. He remembers that among other songs they played "a Dire Wolf with Jerry on pedal steel guitar during one of the acoustic sets, and an Uncle John's Band... a Casey Jones, a Dark Star and a Morning Dew." His phrase, "one of the acoustic sets," probably reflects how difficult it was to tell the acoustic Dead sets from NRPS in 1970. The four July 70 Fillmore East shows were "Midnight Shows." The concert started at midnight each night and consisted of an acoustic Dead set, a NRPS set, and an electric set. DeadBase IX gives this (obviously incomplete) list for the 9th: [acoustic] Silver Threads And Golden Needle; Cumberland Blues; Dire Wolf; Swing Low Sweet Chariot; [electric] Easy Wind; Casey Jones; Not Fade Away > Good Lovin'; Viola Lee Blues; Morning Dew; Sittin' On Top Of The World; Uncle John's Band. |
