A John Lennon song. The title and idea for the song according to Lennon came from his son Julian Lennon. Julian returned home from nursery school with a painting and Lennon asked him what it was. Julian replied 'It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds'. He consistently denied any drug connotations - claiming that the imagery in the song was inspired by Alice in Wonderland rather than LSD as suggested by the title. The song was banned by the BBC.
The 3,000,000 year old skeleton Lucy was named after the song
